The AgriProcessing Initiative (API) is part of the Agricultural Flexibility Fund announced in Budget 2009. The initiative is designed to enhance the competitiveness of the agri-processing sector in Canada. It supports agriprocessing projects that involve the adoption of new technologies and processes that are essential to sustaining and improving the sector’s position in today’s global marketplace.
The Government of Canada is investing in new processing technologies and projects that will create new, more stable markets to improve income opportunities for farmers and the processing sector.
Abbotsford, B.C., July 23, 2009. “We welcome the announcement from the BC Government,” says Robin Smith, President of the BC Food Processors’ Association (BCFPA), after receiving word that British Columbia intends to harmonize its Provincial Sales Tax with the federal Goods and Services Tax effective July 1, 2010. “It will help to stimulate the food processing industry and help processors to become more competitive. This is especially significant in these tough financial times.”
